28th August 2015

It’s been nearly 3 years since I completed the Land’s End to John O’Groats ride and I’m itching to face another challenge. The brief this time was to raise some money (and awareness) for a small charity local to Wantage; I definitely think I have ticked all the boxes with The Fourteen Club (see below).

The format for the day

Start 6.00 am

Finish around 8.00 pm (a total of 14 hours)

Anyone who would like to join the ride at any point is more than welcome, a more detailed plan of the route will be available nearer the time. Please keep checking back here or via the social media mentioned below.

What is The Fourteen Club?

14 Club

The club has been providing a social setting for people with learning disabilities since 1973. They have around 40 members who contribute to the cost of running the club. Club nights are held at Fitzwarren School, various activities are provided from discos and cooking to sports and craft work. It’s a great setting for people to catch up with friends and get involved with something worthwhile.

I visited the club in January to see what they do and also find out a little about how things are funded. The main issue seems to be ever increasing costs such as insurance or hiring entertainers. The club provides an annual summer outing as well as other outdoor activities but it is becoming harder to fund all of these events.

Volunteers are a key part of the club, there is a fleet of drivers and helpers on club night. Time is a valuable commodity, the club is always interested in hearing from people who would like to help.

For more information about The Fourteen Club, please visit their website www.14club.org.uk I will update my blog with training and fundraising news regularly throughout the summer.

Supporting Partners

I am very grateful to TFD, EKGraphics and Wantage Leisure Centre who have provided me with their help and expertise, their generosity is very much appreciated. They are an integral part of Team14 along with many other individuals, together we will make this event a success.
